Atom User Reviews for Civil War
This tells us what will happen if Trump wins or looses the election
Movie wasn't what I expected. No explanation on why there is a Civil War. Don't know who is who. Movie was about a group of photographers, more than anything. It had a non-realistic story line except for the ending, when the main character / photographer gets screwed over. This review is coming from a photographer. I tried to give A24 another chance, but the majority of their movies are horrible.
Need to see it in a theater to get the full immersion. Will definitely make you hope we as a nation never descend into that.
People wake up This is where we are heading
It was a great movie….it makes you think. The director did a great job. You should check out some of his other work.
Good idea, bad execution. Minimal character development and was underwhelming compared to what the trailer portrayed it to be
Marvel's Studios version was wayyyy better.
Literally one of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen. Save your cash.
A movie that everybody really needs to see and consider where we stand as a country are.
I’ve never heard so many people snoring in a movie before.
Trailer for movie is misleading. Its not the movie I went to see
WACK MOVIE WITH AN UNCLEAR PLOT.
As a war veteran, this. hits. HARD! it can happen but for those who don't face reality, you'll never understand. War. is. HELL. People die. The beginning hit really close to home. Great visual and sound effects. Learn from history or else it'll repeat itself!
Best movie of the year!
boring
Trailer is deceiving, not the movie it portrayed. Awful plot. Pointless agenda with no background info other than journalism is challenging. Oh yeah…. and the music didn’t fit the scene(s).
1 hour and 45 minutes to watch the press follow around the so called Civil War without getting an actual backstory. Come on guys, give the fans more of a backstory.
Trash movie
This movie was action packed from the start. one of the best movies I've seen in a very very long time. This was way worth the watch.
The movies is very slow with little to no action. The best part was the last 20 minutes and best I say very loosely. 👎
very slow with only 20 minutes of action at the very end. The entire movie is dialogue between reporters who say they work for "what's left of the New York Times" For such a great movie title, it was a let down. Not worth it to see in the theatre.
excellent movie that the country needs. big thanks for the actors and director.
Vague and generic storyline, after all the hype.
…not what you expect.
Bad ending
The trailer baits you into thinking it’s a good movie
A24 is a hit or miss on films. This was ok.
Eh
If you go in to see a war movie like red dawn, you’re going to be disappointed. However, the movie is very good
it was ok, slow at the beginning, but it did get better by the end.
gross
Not realistic
Not at all what I expected, and yet it was a lot better than I expected. I really thought this was going to be some cheesy Red Dawn style movie. I was on the edge of my seat with the story and also enjoyed the great visual effects.
Kinda hard to follow who was who sometimes, but an interesting storyline
Amazing yet terrifying movie! Sound and picture are superb! It was haunting, terrifying and a must watch! Definitely recommend!
Disappointing. No background on the story and horrendous music choice
That movie was very good
Hits close to home
Boring. First movie I walked out on.
This was an intense watch! It makes you want to look away but simultaneously has you scared to miss anything. Definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat and does well translating the sense of foreboding.
Quite a disappointing movie to say the least. There were only a less than a handful of suspenseful moments but that’s all you get. If anti-climatic is what you’re looking for, this is a must-watch for you, as the ending was an anti-climatic disaster.
The movie had no story line on why there was a civil war and why states had succeeded. It was not at all what I expected. The movie was just about photojournalists and had nothing to due with a civil war except they were photographing it.
Completely disappointing. There’s no story, just following 3 journalists who travel to DC to interview the first journalist who gets to interview the president. Movie was slow, the actions scenes lacked action. Doesn’t even give any backstory to why civil war broke out.
Really makes you think of the scary possibilities. Visually amazing
Dumbest movie ever. Worst thing I've seen in years...maybe ever. Save your time, save your money, stay away. I want my 2 hours back.
For anyone whining about the lack of storyline, just shut up already. THIS IS NOT A MARVEL UNIVERSE. it's a movie about how insane and confusing war is, and that if it happened here, we would all be pissing ourselves with mortal terror. The film celebrates the courage of journalists. If you want GI Joe, stay home.
The story was just ok but the visuals were really good
a great movie with odd song placements
Would’ve liked to see more action but it was cool.
had to walk out before it was done. way to graphic and morbid
Metacritic
It isn’t what those people will think it is. It’s something better, more timely, and more thrilling — a thoroughly engaging war drama that’s more about people than about politics.
While bound to spark hundreds of think pieces, Alex Garland’s stirring Civil War will undoubtedly go down, too, as one of the most provocative films of the year. It’s also an early contender for one of the best, offering a stunning warning: no matter what the cause, war is hell.
Garland may have just delivered one of the most vicious and unrelenting watches of the year, one that I’ll keep debating and untangling both in my head and with others for a good long while.
